Fabulous Festival Food from Radius 7.

The Beer Festival this coming Friday and Saturday is now racing towards us and everything is falling into place for a great weekend.

The beer barrels and racking are being delivered to the Flavel Arts Centre shortly; arrangements are being checked and double checked, and items are slowly but surely being ticked off the many, many lists and copious notes needed to makes sure that this popular event runs as smoothly as possible.

GREAT FOOD FROM RADIUS 7 ON FRIDAY EVENING AND ALL DAY SATURDAY

One thing we won't have to worry about is the food -  delicious nosh will be provided on both Friday evening and throughout the day on Saturday.

Those lovely people from local restaurant RADIUS 7 at Stoke Fleming not only run their restaurant but also provide outside catering, and they are now coming along on Friday too to make sure nobody goes hungry.

Please accept my apologies that in my previous blog post I stated that food was available on Saturday only.

Here's a sneaky peak at their Festival menu which includes two vegan options - and so will hopefully  'cater' for everyone's tastes... (see what I did there?)

Smoked haddock and dill fish cakes, tartare sauce, tossed salad leaves - £5

Beers Galore (plus Wines and Prosecco!) at Dartmouth Beer Festival

Excitement is mounting as the date for Dartmouth's Charity Beer Festival fast approaches - just two short weeks now before the Flavel doors open for the start of this great event!

On Friday 15th and Saturday 16th February there will be a positive extravaganza of over twenty different beers, and more...

...with wines from Michael Sutton's Cellar and a Prosecco Bar run by The Fizz Boat, plus good local food and live music.

The Festival organisers, Dartmouth Rotary Club at The Flavel, are supported by sponsors Bays Brewery

Bays are supplying all the equipment in addition to two barrels of beer.

There will also be a fine selection of great beers from around the country.

If beer really isn't your thing, you needn't worry.

Fine wines, Prosecco and soft drinks will be on offer..

....as well as delicious food (including vegan) throughout Saturday from popular Stoke Fleming restaurant Radius 7

LIVE MUSIC from a variety of local bands, plus the ever popular
Loose Cannons on Saturday.

GREAT SATURDAY RAFFLE - AT JUST £1 PER TICKET!

A CHANCE TO WIN A NIGHT FOR TWO AT THE ROYAL CASTLE HOTEL...
...or one of the many other exciting prizes, including:
A rib ride from RIBEYE
Pack of beers from BAYS BREWERY
Beers from QUANTOCK BREWERY
A large, high quality SUNSEEKER umbrella - and lots lots more.

What is so brilliant about this Festival - apart from all the goodies as described above - is that it will be raising some much-needed funds not only for the Flavel Arts Centre but also for Rowcroft Hospice.

So you'll be supporting two great charities while you are having fun.

 Fantastic Sponsors!

Huge thanks for their incredible generosity and support goes to a whole host of local businesses and individuals, who have sponsored the barrels of beer, the wines and Prosecco, the food, the music, the specially etched souvenir glasses - and not to mention the cornucopia of kindly donated raffle prizes. Plus so much more... in fact all the things that are going to make this year's Festival the best one yet. There may also be a Special Prize Auction on Saturday afternoon. It's still to be confirmed, so watch this space...

Many, many thanks to all the generous sponsors who have helped to make this event possible - couldn't do it without you!

See below for our list of sponsors so far - updated but ever-growing:

Click here for Alan's radio interview on BBC Radio Devon for more details of the Festival and Dartmouth:

Or pop along to the Face Book page Dartmouth Beer Festival for more information

Tickets are just £10 to include three drink tokens, a souvenir glass (I have it on good authority that some people have collected a dated glass for every year so far - respect...) and, to make the day even more enjoyable, a set of tasting notes. There's even a Goodie Bag, and extra drinks tokens are available should you want more!

Tickets are available from The Flavel, or just come along and pay on the door.

DARTMOUTH CHARITY BEER FESTIVAL

Brought to you by Dartmouth Rotary Club at the Flavel and in association with Bays Brewery and many local sponsors.

Friday 15th February from 6pm - 11pm.

John Smith & Co - a Sunday night treat!

Just want to say a very big

  'THANK YOU!'
 to those lovely
Dart Gig Promotions
chaps - Peter and Jonathan...

They brought us a real and most unexpected Sunday night treat last night with a memorable performance from
who has built a reputation as one of the UK’s finest guitarists and songwriters.

The auditorium was virtually packed, the atmosphere was buzzing, and a happy throng of people were first entertained by singer-songwriter Maz O'Connor.

Maz O'Connor

Maz was a sheer delight with her pure, clear voice and enchanting songs.

She was warm, funny and very talented... I particularly loved 'Should Have Loved Me Better' - so very poignant and moving.

And then came a stunning performance from John Smith, joined by Belfast friends and fine musicians and backing singers Joseph and John McGurgan

John has been described by folk legend John Renbourn as one of the UK's finest guitarists and songwriters, hailed  as 'the future of folk music' - and after last night's performance it's not hard to see why.

Never having heard John sing and play before, I found him mesmerising from the start! With his fantastic voice and style very reminiscent of the late, great John Martyn, he had me transfixed for the whole performance and I can honestly say that I enjoyed every single song. He was also friendly and warm with a great stage presence - and coupled with the beautiful harmonies from support Joe (double bass) and John (guitar), it really was for me a night to remember.

We were very lucky indeed to have John and the boys, and of course Maz, at the Flavel as part of their tour - so well done DGP boys for booking them. What a coup!

It was the last DGP gig of the season and after last night's performance they've left us all eager for more - and they tell us they have lots of folky treats in store for us next year...

In fact, I have it on good authority that they have already booked some amazing acts for 2019 and tickets are selling already, so make sure you don't miss out!

Flook
 FLOOK

Yes, none other than the very popular Flook, who after announcing that they were taking a prolonged pause from live performance at the end of 2008, are now back together due to overwhelming popular demand, and are playing some carefully selected concerts around Europe and further afield. Catch these rare shows while you can!

BBC award winning duo Philip Henry and Hannah Martin,

Their performances never fail to delight and excite - ranging from the traditional musics of the British Isles, to Indian classical slide guitar, to the stomping roots party of Phil's beatbox harmonica... and much more.

As always many thanks to Jonathan and Peter of Dart Gig Promotions and all at the Flavel for another Magical and Magnificent Music Night Out.

Great fun at the Quiz

Just want to say a very big thank you for the Flavel Fundraising Quiz last night.

It was a nice thing to do on a rainy Sunday evening and really good fun - such a lovely friendly community event and great to see the auditorium packed with people laughing and generally enjoying themselves.

Big thanks to Rose and Steve Williams who worked so hard compiling all the questions, organising and running the evening...

..They got it just right as it wasn't too serious - but it wasn't too easy either so it really made us get our thinking caps on and get the old grey matter working.

Our team of Happy Quizzers didn't win, but we didn't do too badly - and anyway it really WAS a case of 'It's not the winning, it's the taking part,' as we all had a thoroughly enjoyable evening, with the added bonus of knowing we were helping to raise funds for our Fantastic Flavel.

Many thanks to the Flavel for this very successful event - I hope you'll be doing it again some time.
